Sour and worldly tea for people who like art and travel

This is my "going to the art gallery" tea—originally designed after my friend's worldly and eclectic art gallery in Baltimore. I typically brew it overnight for events since it makes a delicious and refreshing cold brew.

As far as flavors are concerned, Class Cat is the most unique tea here. That’s because the main element, schisandra berry, has all five flavors of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is pretty rare. In TCM, different areas of your tongue correspond to specific organs. If you were to eat a balanced meal—sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and bitter—your organs would be balanced, too. Since schisandra has all five flavors, it is considered medicine for your soul!

I like to pair the pungent berry with holy basil to give your soul a buzz. These two flavors guide the mix, while hibiscus, rose hips, orange peel, and linden blossoms act as a tight backing band. The last addition is suma root, an adaptogen from the Amazonian region. Suma restores vital energy and its powers are enhanced when combined with schisandra. Chi, zen—whatever you wanna call it—this tea makes you feel lifted and grounded at the same time!

Vinyl Pairing: Ravi Shankar ‎– Improvisations (World-Pacific Records, 1962)

There’s plenty of Ravi records out there and quite a few are “east meets west”-type collaborations. Here’s a mellow one that always puts me in a zen mood. This album is a perfect fit for Class Cat—worldly, meditative, and wild!

Make it as a cold brew!

Incredibly refreshing and unique. One of my favorite cold brews and a standard at live events.
